About ORYN
ORYN builds AI systems that understand, reason and take action. We are a small team working on hard problems in reasoning, knowledge and infrastructure, and we care about building things that hold up under real use.
About the role
You will work on the systems that decide what to do next: planning, tool selection, coordination between agents, and the verification step that decides whether a result is good enough to act on.
This is not prompt engineering. It is distributed systems work with a probabilistic component in the middle, and the hard problems are the ones you would recognise from any system that has to be correct under partial failure.
What you will do
- Design and build the execution layer that runs agent plans against real systems.
- Own the verification step: deciding whether a result is what was expected, and what happens when it is not.
- Work through failure modes properly — retries, idempotency, compensation, escalation.
- Write the evaluations that tell us whether a change made things better or only different.
What we are looking for
- Substantial experience building backend systems that are correct under partial failure.
- Comfortable reasoning about distributed state, retries and idempotency without being told to.
- Strong TypeScript or a strong case for why your other language taught you the same things.
- You are sceptical of demos and interested in what happens on the thousandth run.
Nice to have
Not requirements. Apply if the section above describes you.
- Experience with workflow engines, job queues, or anything durable-execution shaped.
- You have built evaluation harnesses for systems whose output is not deterministic.
